Our solar system is very mysterious. Every once in a while it gives us a new surprise. This time, interstellar comet 3I ATLAS is our surprise gift.
This comet isn’t just an ordinary one; it is an interstellar comet, which means it is not part of our solar system. It is from another star system.
This comet, 3I/ATLAS, is officially named as the third interstellar object ever discovered on Earth. In its name the 3I stands for Third Interstellar, and ATLAS is the name of the telescope system in Hawaii by which it was discovered.
Astronomers detected this interstellar comet, 3I ATLAS, in July 2025 using the ATLAS telescope system in Hawaii.
In our solar system, mostly comets revolve around the sun in oval orbits. But 3I ATLAS is different from others; it follows a hyperbolic trajectory.
Interstellar Comet 3I ATLAS is the third one. So we have had the other two interstellar objects before. The first one is 1I/Oumuamua, and the second one is 2I/Borisov.
Right now scientists from all around the world are keeping an eye on interstellar comet 3I ATLAS. It is moving so fast, and it’ll go soon and hide into the deep space.
